Class Instruction ~

The Marcia P. Hoffman Performing Arts Institute classes are transforming!

You have the opportunity to join a creative family at the Marcia P. Hoffman Performing Arts Institute, where the growth of the human spirit is celebrated through exploration, discovery and the experience and mastery of the arts.

Drama MovementOn any afternoon or evening, hundreds of adults and youth from around our community attend arts education classes and lessons at The Marcia P. Hoffman Performing Arts Institute at Ruth Eckerd Hall.

They come in the evening after work or school, during the afternoon and over the weekend. They bring their hopes, their dreams and their aspirations with them. Entering the classrooms, studios and rehearsal halls with great anticipation of learning a new way of expressing themselves, they make their way past the other adults and youth to a spot they call their own. In moments, just before the artist begins to teach… they hold their breath. At that moment, something extraordinary happens. Participants of the class let their minds imagine themselves transformed. In the split second between the unveiling of the teaching artist’s lesson plan, and the beginning of introductions, the outside world fades away.  Through music, drama, theater, dance and movement, each experiences what they may only have imagined before – the pleasure of hitting the right note, the freedom of moving to the music, the joy of knowing the right line. The inspired world of arts education moves them, enriches them, teaches them and strengthens them.

Arts Education~Instructional Approach ~

Exploratory Instruction
The Exploratory Division allows students from toddlers through adults to select classes that suit their interests.  These 10-week classes offer opportunities to discover talents, explore interests and experience the arts.

Preparatory Instruction
The Preparatory Division is suitable for students who possess talents they wish to develop through sequential study in preparation for college-level training and/or a career in the arts.  Students are required to audition before a panel of arts advisors for placement in our structured curriculum for pre-professional training.  All classes require a full year commitment from August through May.  Students involved in the preparatory program may sign up for intersession workshops.

Private Instruction
Private instruction is available throughout the year in the areas of vocal, instrumental and drama. Call the registrar for more information (727) 712-2706.

Master Workshops
Classes, workshops, lectures, panel discussions, and/or symposiums are open to qualified participants in a variety of disciplines. These opportunities are usually in connection with an artist or company being presented at Ruth Eckerd Hall or in residency at the Institute. Call the registrar for more information (727) 712-2706.

Intersession Workshops
