Call the Registrars at (727)-712-2706 to enroll and assess your desired lesson.

The registrar will set up a test lesson with one of our instructors. This is to ensure the right match between the student and instructor- this is imperative in an individual lesson setting to ensure the best results.

Immediately following the test lesson you will either enroll to begin study or arrange for another test lesson.

Is there tuition assistance available?

The Hoffman Institute offers aid to students through completion of high school as well as payment plans for all ages. Students are eligible for only one type of aid at any one time; exceptions are at the discretion of the Director of the Hoffman Institute.

Class Tuition Assistance:
Through the sponsorship support of individuals and corporations, tuition assistance is available to anyone who wishes to study at The Hoffman Institute. Tuition assistance is based on need and family size, documented by an income tax statement or other proof of income presented at the time of application for assistance. Tuition assistance results in a reduced fee for any number of classes per student. Recipients must maintain reasonable progress and attendance. Assistance is applicable to Preparatory or Exploratory class instruction only.

Scholar Sponsorship Program:
Scholarship aid is based on talent and achievement and is managed through an application process and results in reduced fees for all classes and can be applied to both class and individual instruction classes. Scholarship aid is available after the first year of study at the Hoffman Institute to continuing students recommended by their teachers. Recipients must be enrolled in a track of study, be taking private lessons, perform in a minimum of two recitals, and when called upon perform for functions that support the awareness of the Hoffman Institute. Applications are available only through the Institute Instruction Managers.

Ruth Eckerd Hall Clearwater Jazz Holiday Band Scholarships:
This is a scholarship funded by Clearwater Jazz Holiday and offered to students interested in studying in the Hoffman Institute Jazz Track. Nine scholarships are awarded annually for the Fall/Winter/Spring sessions and result in 100% tuition paid. Recipients are required to perform at two class presentation performances, Clearwater Jazz Holiday Festival, and up to ten functions that support the awareness of the Hoffman Institute and Clearwater Jazz Holiday.

Workstudy:
Work study programs are available for students 14yrs. of age and older. Please call (727) 712-2706 for more information.

What is your refund policy?

Refunds or credits will be given ONLY if a class is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment,
in which case fees and tuition will be refunded in full.

Other Instruction Division Policies and Information

Dress Code:
Dress for comfort, not style. Students should be dressed in comfortable clothing and wear appropriate (per class), closed- toed shoes. Specific dress code needs are at the discretion of the instructor. The Hoffman Institute strives for a professional and comfortable environment for all who attend.  Please remember, modest is best! No bare midriffs or flip-flops, please.

Faculty and Staff:
Faculty assignments subject to change. Credentials on request.

Missed Classes:
There is no refund for missed group classes. If a teacher must cancel a class, that class will be made up. There is a week at the end of each semester devoted to make-up lessons.

Safety and Security:
The Hoffman Institute is committed to providing a safe environment. Students over the age of 12 may enter the Institute unaccompanied. However, we do not encourage parents to drop off unaccompanied children to the Hoffman Institute who are under the age of 12, therefore, a sign in/out policy has been put in place. It is required that all parents with students under the age of 12 adhere to this policy.

Sign In/Out:

Summer brings increased enrollment on a daily basis and therefore requires additional precautions. A car drop off and pick up procedure has been established which requires those who are authorized to drop off/pick up the student to show photo identification.

Please do not allow children to wander unsupervised through the building. It is not the responsibility of the faculty or the staff to supervise children outside of their class/lesson time.

Preparatory Attendance PoliciesStudents are expected to attend class each week.  Fellow students’ development is affected when a classmate is absent because the majority of the work done in class is ensemble in nature.  School conflicts for concerts, performances, etc. may be excused when advance written notice is given.  Illness may be excused with advance notice by phone or e-mail.  In case of a family emergency, a call within 24 hours of the absence is requested.  Should a student miss multiple classes for unacceptable reasons, the status of the student will change to class participation only and the student will not participate in the final performance or presentation.

Sick Children:
As much as we recommend and encourage consistent attendance in our programs, please be considerate of others and refrain from having your child attend class or lessons if he or she is ill. Because we have many classes with large attendance, we would appreciate a call when your child is unable to attend a group class so we can inform the instructor.

Visitors:
Prior permission is needed from the Registrars to bring a visitor to class.  Please contact the Education Office at (727) 712-2706.

Weather Policy:
To ensure continuity of instruction, the Hoffman Institute will close only in the case of true weather emergencies. Because most of the Hoffman Institute's activities take place weekdays late afternoon, evenings and weekends, the Hoffman Institute may be open if public or private schools are closed for the day. Generally, the Hoffman Institute will only close if civil authorities declare that a weather emergency exists or if the majority of faculty has cancelled their instruction due to travel difficulties caused by inclement weather. If the Hoffman Institute is closed, the information will be broadcast on BayNews9 or you may call the Registrar's office at (727)712-2706.
